To the uninitiated the number of lots may appear enormous but as Stephen Chesters-Thompsons pointed out not only are the goods drawn in from a wide area but for the purpose of convenient sale some of the consignments are divided up into several lots.
They have not only proved undeliverable but in many cases since the things have originally gone missing the insurers have paid out compensation on them and this may be the opportunity to recoup part of their losses. On occasion advertisements for sale result in goods being reclaimed, as was the case not so long ago when an extremely unghostlike owner turned up to establish his right to a tombstone.
