• Somerset specialist in Austin, Seddon and Dodge vehicles, Steels Commercials (Taunton) Ltd., 148 Priorswood Rd., Taunton, has set up pre-MoT test facilities which include a new heavy goods vehicle wash-bay with concrete ramps set at a gradient of 1 in 6.25. These ramps serve a dual purpose as a hand-brake check and as a means of raising the chassis to allow for cleaning. The latter is done by a cold-water wash which works at 1,000 p.s.i.
After cleaning, the vehicles are brakechecked on a Triangle roller tester and the final check is carried out by the company's resident inspector who has been trained in the methods used by the Ministry and who uses the MoT Testers' Manual as a guide.
