• During the coming year, Newcastle on Tyne transport committee is to spend £30,000 on providing another 170 shelters for bus passengers. There are 1,200 stops in the city area. and 230 have shelters.
The provision of further facilities is part of a plan to attract more people to use public transport. In the past four years, the undertaking has lost 25 per cent of its passenger traffic.
