AT North London's Magistrate' Court recently it was disclose( that a lorry being used with the wronj fuel was seized by the Customs an( Excise authorities and subsequently soli back to the driver for £25.

Before the court was Mr. Georgi Soanes, of Tottenham, who pleaded no guilty to a summons for taking into hi vehicle heavy oil upon which, for horn' consumption, a tax rebate was allowed He was fined £10.

Mr. W. S. Hill, prosecuting, said tha until recently the higher-taxed oil, fa road use, and lower-taxed oil, for holm use, were indistinguishable. Now, a re( substance was added to the oil intende( for home use. Traces of the red oil were discovered in the fuel tank of Soanes lorry, and Customs and Excise had th( right to seize it, said Mr. Hill.

From the witness box, Soanes said h( could not understand how the oil go into his fuel; he certainly did not put i in. Other people used the vehicle, ht claimed, and said someone might havc put in the oil to get him into trouble.
