A.R.O. Meeting.

That the railways and road transport should cease squabbling and get on with the business of ." delivering the goods " was the view expressed by Major Eric Long, J.P., at a mass meeting at Burton-on-Trent, under the auspices of A.R.O.

Representatives of the L.M.S. and L.N.E. Railway Companies, and the Transport and General Workers' Union were present and, in addition to Major Long, other speakers included Mr. L. J. Rix, chairman of the East Midland Area, and Mr. J. W. Beresford, of Stoke-on-Trent. Mr, T, Watson presided, Referring to the difficulties between the railways and road transport, Major Long said that, had the railways used foresight, some years ago, they would not have felt the competition from road transport to so great an extent.

A.R.O. bins for the New Year.

A number of important meetings has been arranged by A.E.G. early in the New Year. Between January 6-9, and 13-1,8 six meetings are to be held in the North-Western area, the times and places to be announced later. On January 13, Mr. R. W. • Sewill, national director,, will address a meeting at Slough, whilst on January 20; Major Long will speak at a gathering at Bridgwater. An important mass meeting has been arranged at Gloucester on January 29, when Gloucester. Stroud and Forest of Dean members of A.R.O. will have an opportunity of hearing Major Long speak.

Mr. R. W. Sewill is to address the St. Albans Chamber of Commerce, on February 3, and he will deal with the memorandum on road transport issued by the Association of British Chambers of Commerce. From February 3-6, meetings have been arranged at Leicester, Boston, Mansfield and Northampton respectively.

The annual dinner of the Oxford sub-area will take place on February 7, at the Cadena Café.

S.T.R. to Visit Yorkshire.

A series of lectures is to be given in 'Yorkshire by S.T.R., costs expert of Tim Commercial Motor, during the week commencing January 6. S.T.R. will deliver his lecture each evening at a different centre, and the meetings have been arranged by the C.M.U.A. At Hull, the meeting will be of a semisocial character.

Annual Dinner of C.M.U.A.. Cornwall Division.

Following . the general meeting of the Cornwall division of the C.M.U.A. on January 19, the annual dinner will he held at the Red Lion Hotel, Truro. Mr. J. L. Kinder, national organizer, will be present.
