• Autodata has published a book, called the 1987 Diesel Data Manual, which claims to provide sufficient technical data to enable routine servicing to be done on "virtually any diesel-engined car or commercial vehicle". With names like Foden, Hino and Caterpillar missing from the index, it is a hard claim to justify.
For the vehicles that are described in the book, which are the vast majority of diesel vehicles on the European market, there are up to 80 specifications shown. These include the major torque settings and tightening orders, where to fit a transducer to the injector pipe for dynamic timing, king pin inclination and ban belt size. All the major engine data is shown, and injection systems are described in great detail.
The manual has keys in ten different languages, including Greek and Finnish, but not Portugese.
For the multi-make workshop, this book, which is available direct form the publishers for 223, would be useful, and save having to have a library of manuals, but it will not provide all the information in every situation.
