A NEW version of the AEC Regal

underfloor-engined p.s.v. chassis designed for export markets is to be featured on the Leyland Motor Corporation stand at the Frankfurt Show. This has been developed from the Regal Mk VI and is named the Regal 691 as it uses the AH 691 horizontal engine which is one of the new series of AEC dry-liner units announced at the time of ate last Commercial Motor Show.

The AU 691 produces a maximum of 205 b.h.p. net at 2.200 r.p.m. and a maxi

mum net torque of 573 b.h.p. at 1,200 r.p.m. Cubic capacity is 690 cu. in. (11-31 litres), bore and stroke dimensions being 130 mm. (5-12 in.) and 142 mm. (5-59 in.) respectively. The engine drives through a six-speed, overdrive synchromesh gearbox or • an AEC Monocontrol semi• automatic transmission with four forward ratios. Power-assisted steering is standard and so is air suspension, while the aupressure braking system has independent front and rear circuits.
