THE Ceylon Transport Board has acted on the first stage of a 10-year development plan providing for more buses, extension of buildings and services, plant, machinery and equipment, bus shelters, stands and other amenities.
The plan provides for 4,000 more buses. CTB now has a fleet of 3,222. The expansion scheme for buildings and
services provides for an extra 25 grade I depots and 47 grade II depots, which will be much larger than the existing ones.
It is estimated that the development plan will cost nearly R265m. (nearly £20m.) of which R198m. (nearly i15m.) will be needed to buy the extra 4.000 buses.
