THE "high number of accidents" in which the transport department's vehicles were involved was criticized by Cllr. J. F. Sanderson at a meeting of Glasgow Corporation last week.

Replying, Cllr. R. McAllister, convener of the transport committee, said the number of accidents per vehiclemile compared favourably with the figures for otherlarge cities. The cost of repairs as a result of accidents. in 1953-54 was. 0,135d. per mile for motorbuses. and 0.277d. for trams.

During the same period, there were , 38 prosecutions, 24 convictions (fines totalling £115) and two trials pendfrig in the case of motorbus drivers. Three trolleybus drivers had been prosecuted and convicted, fines totalling EDI As a result of accidents, the department held 3,989 disciplinary interviews, 32 employees were dismissed, 263 were suspended and 516 lost the "no accident" bonus.

Cllr. McAllister said that accidents were constantly under review.
