The Tables have been completely vised and will provide operators with the ost reliable analysis available of the aver:e costs of running all types of petrol and I-engined vehicle, goods and passenger, :luding road haulage tractors and trailers d hire cars, as well as battery-eleetrics.. , To avoid delay in giving users the most '`to-date information, some of the most dely consulted of the tables are published i this and the next four pages. Because of nitations of space, figures for fair minium charges, which will, as in the past, be :luded in the booklet, have been omitted )m the extracts published this week. Costs e given for rigid four-wheeled and multiieeled and articulated petrol and oilgined goods vehicles, and oil-engined ises and coaches.

Wide Coverage

The figures are based on the experience of Lndreds of operators all over the country d are averages. The costs of operating in 'el country and over good roads are likely be lower than those given, and, conrsely, users in areas where conditions are verse will find that their expenses are gher. They should make adjustments cordingly.

Expenditure on fuel is based on the nimption that petrol costs 4s. a gallon and fuel 3s. 9d. a gallon. For every Id. over under those prices, the figures for petrol ould be increased or decreased by 1/48th , in the case of oil fuel, by 1/45th.

Wages are assessed according to grade 1 tes payable by Aand B-licence holders. ()vision is made for national insurance, nImen's compensation insurance and holiys with pay. C-licensees can easily make justments to the figures for wages to suit sir own cases.

COmprehensive Insurance

Full comprehensive insurance is assumed, d the figures given are those applicable to ciliary users. Hauliers have to pay more d should make suitable amendments.

Maintenance (d) covers routine operations, :11 as washing, greasing, repainting and rnishing. The figures given under this ading represent the average expenditure of erators who keep their vehicles in firstiss condition. Maintenance (e) refers to 'airs and overhauls.

Depreciation is assessed by mileage and hi-priced vehicles are assumed to have a life of 100,000 miles, and the high-prict models 200,000-240,000 miles. Allowance made for residual values, and obsolescent is taken into account whenever the mileal does not reach 24,000 a. year for mass-pl.+ duced vehicles, or 48,000 a year for individ ally manufactured vehicles.

Overheads •are not shown separate among the costs, but are taken care of the figures for minimum charges, which w be included in the complete tables in tl booklet.
