Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

"I recently tendered for the haulage of 120 tons of rough quarry stone which was required for road repairs. The distance the material had to be carried was five miles. I calculated I would be able to convey eight loads per day and quoted 6s. 6d. per ton. I gather from the man who obtained the job Mat my price was high. Will you please advise me if I be wrong or if the other man be working Jot nothing ?"

Your price of Es. 6d. per ton is correct. According to our calculation the minimum should be 6s. 3d., so that your quotation is only slightly above the least possible profitable charge.

If the other man be also using a l-ton lorry and be doing the job for much less than you have quoted, he will be losing money on it.
