see whether it will be granted licence authority for a new operating centre at Sandbach, which the company has been using for almost a year without authority.
North Western Licensing Authority Martin Albu has reserved decision on the company's application to renew its international licence in respect of 38 vehicles and nine trailers, with a move of operating centre from Macclesfield to Lodge Road, Sandbach. The application attracted environmental representations from local residents, who complained about vehicles using Abbey Road and Dean Road to gain access to the site.
For the company, John Backhouse said that environmental problems in connection with the Macclesfield operating centre led to a decision to find alternative premises. The local authority had indicated that there were no problems with relation to the Sandbach site, which the company acquired and moved into in May 1988.
Renewal of the licence, incorporating the new operating centre, was applied for, but a request for interim authority for its use was initially turned down.
Residents had complained to the council when the previous occupiers were operating from the site. The council had been asked to either impose a weight restriction on Abbey Road or strengthen the road, but nothing had been done.
Director Nigel Stevens said the company's drivers had been instructed not to use either Abbey Road or Dean Road, and he would be content if a condition to that effect was imposed on the licence. The company's operations were on a 24hour a day basis and any restriction as to the times of operation would lead to considerable difficulty. There had been some suggestion of a relief road, and that was something he would welcome.
