• Gateway's most recent distribution centre in Huntingdon, which opened last week, will be sold to Asda if the proposed supermarket chain buyout goes ahead.

A consortium of international investors has just launched a £1.7 billion bid for control of the company.

Louis Sherwood, chairman of Gateway Foodmarkets, says: "I feel extremely negative about the proposed sale."

Now Gateway plans to extend the experiment to other UK distribution centres.
