FRANK LEWSEY was amused by the reference to a Poet Laureate by Janus (CM, Topic, February 2), and tells me there is no chance of a John Masefield in his neck of the woods (Witney, Oxfordshire). He has sent me this snatch of vintage village poet:
Where are you off to, my knight of the road Where are you going to pick up your load?
I'm going to Blackpool for rails full of frocks And I think I might sample some sticks.of their rocks.
Where have you been to, my knight of the road Where did you go to deliver your load?
I've been to Bakewell, so famous for tarts Where I broke a rear leaf spring and quite a few hearts!
Can readers, from their own experiences condensed into two lines, complete either stanza?
