• Eastern Counties Omnibus Company is planning to increase bus fares next month by a penny to pay for increased wages.
The company has in recent months been cutting fares to encourage more people to use buses and has offered, for example, cut-price return fares for Saturday shoppers. But increased costs particularly higher wages haw compelled the company to apply to the Eastern Traffic Commissioners for permission to raise fares. Most fares between 5p and Ilp will go up by a penny. Fares under 5p will remain the same. A new multi-journey ticket giving 10 journeys for the price of nine to replace the old weekly ticket is also planned.
