AMOTION protesting against the

decision of the National Joint Industrial Council for the road passenger transport industry, that municipal transport undertakings with exceptional difficulties could apply for permission Co pay higher wages to platform staff, has been submitted by the transport committee to Middlesbrough Corporation.

SAFETY IN TIPPING

NEW safety features are incorporated in an A.E.C. Mammoth Major sixwheeled tipper, the body of which was built by Pilot Works, Ltd., Bolton. The vehicle is one of 50 tippers ordered from A.C.V. Sales, Ltd., by George Wimpey and Co., Ltd.

A lamp in the cab illuminates when the body starts to tip. The body has a Pilot automatic tailgate, and as all controls are in the cab there is no need for the driver to get out of the vehicle during tipping.

A 3-ft. prop is attached to the tipping-gear cradle so that the body can he supported when maintenance work is being done. To aid servicing, there are brackets under the body, and when the body is raised these are directly over the differentials. Hooks may be attached to the brackets for lifting components.

SLOUGH AND OXFORD ROUNDS

THE Slough eliminating round for the Lorry Driver of the Year Competition will be held on Sunday, August 19. Efforts are being made to obtain a larger arena; but if they fail, the competition will have to be held on the same ground as last year and the number of entries will have to be curtailed.

Oxford's eliminating round will be held at Oxford Airport, Kidlington, on Sunday. July 15, The site is easily reached from the A34 road from Oxford to Woodstock, or A423 from Oxford to 13anbury.
