f-IN an appeal by the British Trans port Commission the Transport Tribunal on Tuesday deleted a vehicle granted to Mr. C. H. Baulch, of Chard, by the Western. Licensing Authority.

The vehicle's carrying capacity was 'limited to 10 tons and the normal user was "goods for the Phoenix Engineering Co. and Granville Sawmills." The Tribunal accepted the submission of Mr. J. R. Samuel-Gibbon, for the B.T.C., that the transport needs of the two customers named were insufficient to justify the grant.

Mr. F. A. Stockdale, for Mr. Baulch, said that many of his client's customers were not customers of the Commission, so that there was no question of abstraction of work.

Mr. Samuel-Gibbon described how the application had occupied two days before the Authority. "As the case developed on the first day, it was quite clear it was put forward as 'a case for a low-loader," he said. On the second day it transpired that the vehicle was a low-bodied, articulated type, not a low-loader.

At the outset, stated counsel, figures put in by Mr. Baulch failed to show that his other vehicles were working to capacity.

"DIRECT COACHES WOULD OPEN KENT RESORTS"

THROUGH services by road to Kent L resorts would open up a new coast for the average family man, stated Mr. A. J. R. Mills, labour and welfare officer of Yokes, Ltd., before the Metropolitan Licensing Authority this week.

Mr. Mills was supporting Cooke's Coaches (Stoughton), Ltd., who applied to run express services from Guildford to Margate, Ramsgate and Hastings. The Authority reserved his decision on these facilities, but extended the applicants' Wye Valley tour from two days to three days.

Objectors to this extension were Glenton Coaches, who were licensed to operate four-day and seven-day tours to the Wye Valley and Wales.

The Authority deferred hearing Cooke's applications to run tours to Devon, Cornwall and the Continent.

Aldershot and District Traction Co., Ltd., East Kent Mad Car Co., Ltd., and Southdown Motor Services,Ltd., objected. Supporting petitions were produced from people of Shere and Guildford.
