MARKET DEMAND has led to Manheim introducing a monthly auction for council and utility vans at its Colchester site.
Regional CV manager Tim Spencer said council and utility vehicles are popular because buyers know the vans are well specified and maintained.
"The vans are often operated within a tight radius of base, so they are very much in a retail customer's heart and mind when it comes to selecting a used van for their business," he said.
Spencer said 96% of the vans were sold at the last sale, with the total sales value exceeding the vendor's pre-set reserve prices by 128%.
Trevor Pascall is the asset manager for UK Power Networks, which is responsible for delivering electricity to homes and businesses for the utility companies. He said: "Since [this] launch we've achieved excellent results, with the auction hall always being busy with physical buyers. We're also seeing many bids coming in via Simulcast from online buyers from the [whole] country."
