The accident occurred on the notorious A616 Stocksbridge bypass in South Yorkshire at 09:00hrs on Monday 23 September. A Leyland Oaf 17-tonner was involved in a collision with a car and smashed through safety barriers on Deepcar bridge.

The truck driver, who is from the Huddersfield area, was airlifted to hospital with broken ribs and a broken collar bone. Tony Kenny who drives for Manchester firm AK Worthington, was travelling just behind the Leyland Oaf; he says the driver is lucky to be alive: "I looked at the state of the cab and just thought the driver must be dead, it was just mangled to anything. How he got out of there without any major Injuries I'll never know. It was absolutely unbelievable."
