Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

take the time to check that the old flywheel become distorted through overheating—this d lead to difficulties when locating the new er assembly.

n fact Shakespeare suggests that if the flywheel become heavily worn or scored it should always be aced, otherwise it will reduce the life of the clutch. t cracks or score marks, for example, will behave razors and skim off lining material, every time the ch is operated.

t's a precaution that Lipe's head of aftermarket s, Doug Jefferson, would agree on, "Far too little intion is paid to checking the condition of the rheel," he says, "especially where ceramic-faced es are concerned."

.:eramic discs last several times longer than those organic linings, but they do have a wearing effect he flywheel. "That's why when a badly worn clutch fails it s so important that the flywheel face is examined," he stresses.

If tie flywheel surface is badly scored it should be replaced before the proper replacement pressure plate, learings and ceramic-faced disc are fitted.

Lief ferson also reckons that all too often the owner sees the state of the flywheel and decides that a cheaper plate with organic linings will be kinder to it. In fact, the

plate tries to bed into a very badly worn flywheel face and in next to no time the new disc is just chewed up. Many operators are prepared to risk a damaged flywheel. and think it will do, he adds: "Well. that may have been OK in the early days, but with modern hightorque engines, fitting a replacement clutch assembly to a badly worn flywheel is just foolhardy."

Jefferson also believes that the time allowed for the job Is a major factor. If the mechanic only has say six hours to renew a clutch, he may decide that the flywheel will have to do, so a replacement disc will never last as long as the original. Also, a replacement clutch may cost anything up

to £450, but if the flywheel needs changing too, you could be looking at Lipe (UK) .....01706 228321 another 1750, and this Sachs-Boge DIM 822353

can easily affect an Sabo SIOSTT owner's judgement.
