ii Scantruck Purfleet is the latest addition to Scania's 89-strong support network—it was opened in May at a cost of over 5.6.5m. The Purfleet operation, which also runs vehicle maintenance units (VMUs) at Encdand and Harlow, maintains the Securicor, (atfield) and Safeway, (Aylesford) fleets.
The workshop features 15 bays, most of them c rive-through, and all equipped with special tools and supplies of engine and gear oils, water, anti-freeze and greases. "Every bay can be accessed by hose reel so mechanics don't have to search for a gallon jug," says workshop manager Dave Turner. Job numt er details are simply keyed into a central control computer and the liquid is duly delivered.
