Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• by Jennifer Bali The Read Wage Associatior has teamed up with Crinestoppers to lama a new campaign to help drivers fight back against tuck crime.

Launched at last week's RNA security conference in Birmingham,

Stop Truckcrime and ring today (START) is designed to crack down on CV crime and help recover stolen trucks and loads by using intelligence supplied by the public. Anyone with information on truck crime is being encouraged to ring Crimestoppers anonymously.

The RHA is offering haulage companies START promotional cards to put in their cabs and to give to staff to encourage them to use the service.

START was inspired by the success of the Crimestoppers' Stop Motorcrime And Ring Today (SMART) campaign. Since 1997 SMART has received nearly 40,000 calls leading to 3,000 people being charged—more than 15m worth of vehicles and goods have been recovered.

Brian Wareham, Grimestoppers' director of operations, says: "Drivers are often too frightened to go to the poke or their bosses with information for fear of being beaten up or sacked. Crimestoppers gives them the opportunity to do this without fear of reprisals.

"We need an integrated approach to tackle truck crime," he adds. "Instead of bashing the police and government for doing nothkig hauliers can help themselves by encouragNig employees to call with any information; whether it is something they overhear in a transport cafe, pub or warehouse. if only 15.000 people see the cards and one is the right person, it weld provide a resort. Just one call last year resulted in the recovery of 1750,000 of goods and a man being charged,"
