• A national strike at Parcelforce has been averted following an agreement between the union and management to review the future use of closed circuit television,
The deal halts a 24-hour strike at the Bristol centre which had been planned for today (Thursday).
Parcelforce management and
the Communication Workers' Union have agreed to review of code of practice for the use of CCTV.
The dispute was over Bristol sorting worker Stephen Fox who was sacked after being spotted on video footage throwing a plastic lid and smoking.
The union says this broke an agreement which says CCTV should only be used for preventing theft.
The accord ends weeks of uncertainty and follows the return of a national strike ballot among most of the Post Office parcel company's 12,000 staff at its 17 centres which, according to the CWU, showed that 12 centres were prepared to strike over the CCTV issue.
