• Alternative Chassis Engineering is talking to a distributor in Thailand about supplying up to 250 low-floor Cougar chassis for locally bodied buses.
The Huddersfield-based manufacturer was approached by the Thais three weeks ago.
Its workforce of eight will have to increase significantly if it wins the deal, according to engineering director Keith Ward.
He is evaluating other overseas markets for the Perkinsengined chassis: since its launch nearly a year ago it has only been taken by two UK operators.
