CONTROVERSY over the handheld radar gun to measure speed continues. This time a Humberside police office has caused trouble by disregarding the explicit instructions on the use of the instruction and pointed it at the image of an approaching vehicle seen in a door-mounted rear-view mirror Whether by luck the 61mph registered by the meter was correct or not is immaterial. What matters is that the methoc used was improper. A summon; against the driver has been withdrawn after a protest by the RAC and a threat to call expert evidence in defence. Thus the RAC lives up to its slogan: "80 years of service to the motorist and the nation."
