NEW BUS and coach sales fell from 432 vehicles in August 1980 to 256 last month, but importers' sales remained steady, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
Leyland suffered a drop from 225 to 139 vehicles, and was followed by Bedford with 34 sales, a drop from 82 in August 1980. Ford's sales fell from 46 to 24, Volvo fell from 37 to 22, and Dennis from 13 to 12.
Metro-Cammell Weymann, which has been losing some of its initial steam, fell from 29 sales to only 11, and now comes third in heavyweight service bus sales.
DAF, MAN-VW, and other importers recorded increases in their sales.
