• Pickfords Industrial has Set up its first American base, in Houston, Texas, as the first stage of a "global network". Former Pickfords UK managing director Rod Moysen will head Allied Pickfords Industrial Movers, which plans to set up branches on the East and West Coasts and in the Mid West.
Allied Pickfords will maintain closer links with fellow US NFC subsidiary Allied Van Lines, a household remover with 750 agents.
The Texas site employs 34 and is well placed to compete for oil industry work. Allied Pickfords' fleet includes eight Kenworth tractors with trailers rated at 100 tonnes. In its latest contract Pickfords Industrial dismantled and moved a 1,476m wind tunnel from British Aerospace at Woodford, south Manchester, to Manchester University's aerodrome in the north of the city.
