Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SEDDON ATKINSON is to show improved models for 1986 at the Scottish Motor Show next month.

Drivers will benefit most from the changes which bring better safety, less noise and more comfort.

Seddon Atkinson's premium range 401 has reduced in-cab sound levels by 1.5 dB(A).

On tractive units, Bostrorn's 711 air suspension seat becomes standard for the driver, while multi-wheeled rigids have the Bostrom 411 driver's seat.

Existing axle beam on 401 and 3014x2 and 6x2 tractive units is retained, but has larger strengthened ends, a larger kingpin with a preloaded thrust bearing imd a new hub with improved bearing adjustment.

The SA-65 axle, plated at 6.5 unifies, saves 16kg for a single steered unit and twice that on a twin-steer model.

A new single reduction drive axle, the SA-I10 at 11 tonnes plated weight is introduced on 301 and 401 tractive units.

It has a Rockwell S180E. driving head (shock absorbers moved to spring saddles) and a diff lock becomes standard on 401 models.

Better quality S-cam brakes are fitted to eliminate eccentric cam wear and the camshafts run in needle roller bearings protected by both dirt and oil seals.

Automatic adjusters are offered as an option. Larger 12R 22.5 tyres are standard, and the 6.5 tonne axle improves load tolerances.

The 301 range benefits from the noise reduction package, new axles, exhaust brakes, heated mirrors and improved seating.

The International 1)-358 engine, already discontinued

from the 201 16-tormer, is replaced by the turbocharged and charge-cooled Perkins 1.6.3544 unit.

A ZF S6-105 gearbox with GV36 splitter gives much closer gear steps with 12 forward ratios combined with an epicyclic hub reduction drive axle.

A 10.5 tonne axle gives the 201 an increased ground clearance of 72mm and a weight saying of 9kg over the former two-speed model and the fitting of the SA-65 front axle saves a further 32kg.

• Seddon Atkinson claims that in the first nine months of 1985, its registrations of 16-tonners have increased by 23 per cent in a market where overall demand is two per cent down.

Cummins 10 litre-powered 301 6x4 are 30 per cent up and eight-wheeler registrations are 66 per cent higher.

301 tractive units are up 41 per cent, only the 401 range has not kept pace.
