CONVICTIONS for a second axle overload on an articulated Outfit cost Wilsons Transport of Borou,L,dibridge and one of the company's drivers a total of £'355.50 in fines and costs when they appeared before the Lichfield magistrates.
The company and driver Denzil Cooke, denied overloading the second axle of the vehicle by 9.95 per cent.
Traffic examiner Keith
lelm said that when the vehicle stopped in a weight check at the Wall dynamic axle weighbridge it was found that the second axle weighed 11,270kg, an overload of I,t120kg.
Defending, John Backhouse said that the load had been adjusted by moving the fifth wheel forward a few inches.
However, when the vehicle was re-weighed and the prohibition cleared, the reduction achieved in the second axle weight was not reflected by a corresponding increase in the front axle weight.
That must throw doubt on the accuracy of the results when the vehicle was first weighed, he said, adding that the gross weight ought to have been the same on both accounts and clearly it was not.
Finding the cases proved, the magistrate fined the company 0511 with :-.55.50 costs and Cooke 000 with £50 costs.
