British drivers excel at Munich

BRITISH drivers came seventh out of 12 teams participating in the Union Internationale des Chauffeurs Routiers {U1CR) professional driving chainpionships in Munich earlier this month.
The annual driving championship was hosted this year by Kraftfahrep-Schultz, the West German Routier drivers' dub, and sponsored by Mercedes-Benz. The German 'Leal]] won this year.
The competition was divided into coach, rigid, articulated and drawbar classes. The British team took seventh place overall and came home with individual trophies in all the classes.
Artie drivers: Roger Broomfield, Truckline; Colin Gray, Ferrymasters; and Geoff Walker, self-employed.
Rigid drivers: Barney Abberton, BP: John
Crookes, Me Ispecd. in Wales; and Roy Foster, Dudley Breweries.
Coach drivers: Ron Hayes, PPI I Coaches; Phil Robinson, (lull ( :antahria, Witlord; uid Malcolm Stephenson, Bibby's of Ingleton.
Stephenson, several times Coach Driver of the Year, took 31st place in points out of all the drivers raking part in the classes and came l3th in his own class.
In the rigid section, Foster came Wth overall and in the articulated class, Gray came I9th.
