The Department of Transport has assured Merseyside Chamber of Commerce and Industry that it is taking steps to prevent delays at goodsvehicle testing stations.
The chamber's surface transport committee complained that vehicles and trailers were being turned away from stations when presented for their annual test.
The vehicles were given a deferment certificate valid for a limited period, but the costs involved in re-presenting the units were very considerable, stated the chamber.
The Department of Transport said the situation had arisen because of staff shortages and would soon be rectified.
