AIRMEN gave supporting evidence before the Northern Licensing Authority last week when tayfield Bus Services, Ltd., Thornaby on 'Tees, applied to run service8 from GoosepooT R.A.F. station, near Darlington, to Glasgow, Newcastle, Leeds and Manchester. The Railway Executive and United Automobile Services, Ltd., objected on the ground that existing services were satisfactory.

The Authority said that he felt that airmen should be able to travel at week-ends at reduced fares. If the railways could provide lower fares, they should give the services, but if not, road services would have to be licensed. He gave the railways four weeks to reduce fares and advised U.A.S. to file a stop-gap application to be considered, together with that of Layfield, if the railways could not provide the necessary facilities.

DOME Middlesbrough and Stockton LI Transport Committees have decided that the availability of return tickets shall in f,uturi be limited to the day of issue only, with special provision for men working on nightshift. Some months ago, the period of availability was extended to a month, but it is understood that this has led to -abuse.

A SUGGESTION that vehicles to be ra.ordered by Coventry Transport Department might include one-manoperated 44-seat .single-deckers has been put to the transport committee by the general manager of the undertaking. He has been requested to give an estimate Of cost.
