QTATISTICS published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders show that production during August was affected by holidays. The weekly output of commercial vehicles, at 3,750 was the lowest for the year and slightly down on that of the comparable period for last year.

Exports, however; were maintained vi+ithin a few units. Of the total of 15,007. units .built during the month, 10,598 were for overseaS and 4,409 were for the home market.

' Goods vehicles, road haulage tractors and special-type vehicles produced during August totalled 14,228,. of which 6,141 were in the under-15-cwt. class, 7,213 between 15" cwt. and 6 tons, and 874 over 6 tons. The total number of motorbuses and trolleybuses built was 715, made up of 558 single-deck and 152 double-deck motorbuses, and five trolleybuses. Battery-electrics produced during August numbered 64. .• For the first eight months of the year, production rose to 169,661 units (105,584 for export and 64,077 for the home market). Goods vehicles, road haulage tractors and special-type vehicles totalled 161,377 and were made up as follows; Under 15 cwt.. 78,360; 15 cwt. and up to 6 Ions, 75,730; over 6 tons, 7,287.

The 7,463 passenger vehicles comprised 5,612 single-deck and 1,768 double-deck motorbuses, and 83 trolleybuses. Daring the same period 313 pedestrian-controlled and 821 batteryelectric vehicles were produced. .

Works trucks built during the first eight months of the year totalled 4,070.

Excluding dumpers and industrial trucks, for which no figures are available, 11,212 vehicles were exported during August, the total value, including dumpers and industrial trucks, being £5,951,875. .Figures for the previous month were 11,247 and £5,965,216 respectively.

For the first eight months of the year, 95.238 vehicles, excluding dumpers and industrial trucks, were exported, the total value of shipments, including dumpers and industrial tritcks, being £47,983,847.

Other units sent overseas included 2,229 used commercial vehicles (0,093,005), 76,913 agricultural tractors (£28,722,039), and parts and accessories to the value of 09,740,597.
