The passenger-transport committee of Nottingham Corporation recently had under consideration a proposal to purchase 31 new trolleybuses, the names of three concerns being mentioned in connection with supplying the chassis. The final selection of the make and type of chassis has been deferred, but it is understood that the bodies will be supplied by a company specializing in all-metal bodywork.

At the time that our analysis of municipal bus services was published in March last, the corporation was operating a fleet of 231 passenger vehicles, 105 of them being trolleybuses of Karrier, Ransome, Railless and English Electric makes.

London Fire-engine Contest Results.

The final of the 17th annual motorpump competition of the London County Council's fire brigade was held on October 16, and was won in 1 min. 181 secs, by the team from the Cannon Street fire station (B watch). The second place was taken by the team from the Shoreditch fire station, A watch (1 min. 20} secs.), 'whilst the teams from Dockhead. (B watch) and Whitechapel (B watch) tied for third place (1 mm. 22; secs.).

Saving Fuel Costs at Accrington.

• Accrington Corporation has decided to fit the Leyland 8-litre oil engine in two of its Leyland. Titan petrol-engined double-deckers. It has been stated that, on an estimated mileage of 50,000, there wid be a saving in fuel costs of not less than £416.
