• Driver shortages have led Securicor Omega Logistics to introduce air-conditioned cabs to attract more drivers to the company. The first 12 Volvos are in operation at the Thetford and Stanton depots and 18 air-conditioned vehicles are expected to arrive at other locations soon. Omega says it is the first distribution company to introduce air-conditioning to its fleet.
A company spokesman declined to reveal what the fuel penalty would be and claimed the greater economy of the new models would compensate for the air-con units.
Omega Logistics has another 90 air-conditioned vehicles lined up-50 Renaults and 40 Scanias.
