• A South Wales bus company has turned a record £800,000 loss into a £76,000 profit within a year of being privatised.
Merthyr Tydfil Transport streamlined its operation and now employs 75 drivers, compared with 104 before deregulation. All the jobs were lost through natural wastage.
The company has maintained its fleet of 49 buses, and has bought three coaches. Now it plans to expand into continental travel.
