• The long-expected hivingoff of General Motor's heavy duty diesel engine business has been given the go-ahead.
All GM's heavy duty diesel engine activities, which are currently the responsibility of the Detroit Diesel Allison division, are to be transferred to a new joint venture company called Detroit Diesel Corporation in which GM will hold a 40% share, with 60% held by the truck leasing and vehicle distribution company, Penske Corporation.
