Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• At 466kg, BPW's latest trailing, self-steering axle is some 80kg lighter than its predecessor and also features mechanical steering stabilisation which is claimed to extend tyre life considerably.

The system, which allows 20° movement, uses a patented "undulatory pressure bearing" in the steering knuckle to provide load-dependent return forces under all driving conditions. This gives a precise return to the straight-ahead position after each steering deflection. BPW says wheel alignment adjustment is unnecessary and, because there are no stabilising or reversing components, less maintenance is required. Steering axles rated at eight tonnes are available now and a 10-tonne version will follow. Prices are the same as for previous components.
