CI of Transport be asked to appoint a commission to investigate ferry and similar charges was made by Mr. K. G. Foster, chairman of A.R.O. Devon and Cornwall Area committee, at a meeting of the committee. He contended that ferry charges ought to be abolished, for the trunk roads were free and ferries were only the links connecting them.

This matter arose out of a letter from the Association's national director, Mr. R. W. Sewill, who stated that he had laid the question of the Saltash ferry service before the Ministry of Transport and was awaiting a reply. The area had unsuccessfully attempted to obtain a 20-minute service in winter, as well as in summer, by making representations to Saltash Town Council.

On the question of the proposed voluntary levy for financing objections in licensing courts within the area, a resolution was carried, as. follows

" That the levy, which shall be at the rate of is. per. vehicle, shall he administered by the area committee . . ; that objections shall he made against newcomers to the industry, notorious bad operators and non-members applying for additional tonnage or modification of conditions; that in cases in which an applicant for membership has an application; for a licence before the Authority, that must be decided before the question of membership."

Mr. Foster, Mr. F. G. Curtis and Mr. J. Metcalfe were chosen to represent the committee at meetings of the West of England C Licence Holders Association, which will appoint members toattend the meetings of the A,R.O. Committee.
