Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The Swiss postal authorities have recently put into service a fleet of 20 e Saurer low-platform Alpine motor coaches, which embody a number of new features. • The chassis are adapted to be fitted with two styles of coach body —one for 25 passengers, for use on short routes, and the other for 17 persons, for service on long routes.

The coaches can be used in either closed or open form, being provided as the are with a hood, which, mounted on runners' can ' be quickly

fixed in position. The vehicles are equipped with six-cylindered power units, vrhiLst the standard type of gearbox is supplemented by a Maybaeh reduction gear which enables the stiffest gradients to be surmounted without undue racing of the engines.

Bournemouth's Trolley-bus Scheme.

The general manager of the Bournemouth tramways has reported on the question of a suggested clause in the proposed Bill as to the provision of a trolley-bus system. He has been asked to make arrangements for the members of the committee to be conveyed by a corporation bus to Hastings and Maidstone for the purpose of inspecting the trolley-bus systems installed in those towns.

A New Republic Chassis.

The La France-Republic Corporation, Alma, Michigan, has just announced the production of a new 1-ton chassis. Outstanding features of the model are a 58 h.p. six-eylindered engine, a fourspeed heavy-duty gearbox, four-wheel hydraulic brakes, a bevel-driven rear axle, good road clearance and a low centre of gravity.

This chassis has been designated model A-1 and important improvements have been introduced into the design to enhance its attractive appearance. The front wings sweep gracefully to the running board, the radiator shell is narrower and deeper, whilst the bonnet louvres are made vertically instead of being horizontal. The wheelbase of the new model is 11 ft., whilst it can be turned in a circle having a radius of 24 ft.

New Dunlop Accessories.

Two new jacks have been added to -the existing range of the Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd. One is a 2-ton and the other a 5-ton triple-lift type and it is

claimed that they cover the needs of every class of commercial-vehicle user.

There is also the Dunlop trolley compressor for garage use, which includes a patent pressure-testing device that enables the pressure to be taken without removing the pump connector from the tyre valve. A trigger on the chassis enables the handle to be locked in position, so that the pump may easily be wheeled about.

Municipal Purchases and Proposals.

FEATHERSTONE Urban District Conncil is to purchase a new motor ambulance.

The electricity committee of BATTERSEA Borough Council has authorized the .purchase of a motorvan at a cost of about 1240.

The highways committee of KENT County Council reeommeads the purchase of two new Foden steam wagons at .1s60 each.

In order to purchase a new motor fire-engine, SALTETTRN Urban District Council is to apply for sanction to a loan of £1,025.

Sanction has been given COLCHESTER Town Council to borrow i6,895 for the purchase of five motorbuses.

BROWNHILLS (Staffs) Urban District Council requires a motor ambulance, and" tenders have to be delivered by November 30th. Further particulars can be obtained from the clerk to the council.

The highways committee of PArox'row Urban District Council has accepted the tenders of Messrs. Beesley and Hawkins and of Messrs. Taylor and Hooper for the supply of two 30-cwt. lorries.

MANCHESTER municipal authorities have ordered a further four Lacre sweepers, thus bringing their fleet up to 143 machines, whilst BELFAST authorities are adding two new machines to their fleet of seven Lacre sweepers.

A.E.C. Employees Visit the Show.

Believing that its employees would be interested in the exhibits at the Commercial Motor Show, the Associated Equipment Co., Ltd., invited on the last day of the Show all the office staff and works operatives (including their wives) to Olympia. How much this gesture was appreciated can be gauged from the fact that no fewer than 1,995 employees applied for tickets offered by ' the company.
