Used van prices have dipped below £4,000 for the first time in 17 months

Words: Will Shiers USED VAN values have reached their lowest value since November 2009, according to British Car Auctions (BCA).

The igures show that average values fell in April by £211 (just over 5%) compared with March, while sold volumes declined by over 31% month-on-month. However, sold volumes had been climbing since the December low point, when trading activity was signiicantly constrained by the severe winter weather.

Values averaged £3,969 in April, the irst time they have dipped below £4,000 in 17 months. Performance against CAP also came under some pressure, with the average igure falling to 97.5% from just under 99% in March. Year-on-year values remain well behind the 2010 igures, with April 2011 down £664 (14.3%) when compared with April last year.

According to BCA, this was due to increasing fuel costs, the late Easter, the Royal wedding, and the hottest April on record. BCA general manager Duncan Ward says: “In April, we saw the irst real evidence of a softening in demand.” ■
