• Britain's last independent tyre maker, Avon Rubber, has made over £7.5 million profit in the first half of this financial year — an increase of 43% over the same period last year. The group's truck tyre turnover is 28 million.
It also produces automotive products, including the Avon backstop rubber sensor strip for reversing lorries, and owns the Motorway chain of automotive retail outlets.
