Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• TNT Newsfast, which has been losing ground in the battle to capture Britain's "up-forgrabs" newspaper distribution market, has hit back at rival NCCS Newsflow by clinching contracts with The Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph.

The titles, which sell 1.1 million and 730,000 copies respectively, end their distribution arrangements with British Rail on 11 July. The Daily Telegraph is the biggest-selling broadsheet daily newspaper in the UK.

TNT is buying 40 vehicles for the contract — 33 Leyland Daf Freighters and seven 16tonne MAN tigids. It will pick up 1,350 tonnes of papers every week from print centres in London and Manchester, distributing them to 240 provincial wholesalers.

The win comes as a slight setback for Newsflow, which two weeks ago secured con tracts with the publishers of the Daily Express, Sunday Express, Daily Star, Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday, The Guardian and Financial Times, giving it over 70% of the UK market.

Both companies will be competing vigorously for the last two big nationals, The Observer and The Independent, which must make new arrangements following British Rail's announcement that it is pulling out of newspaper distribution.
