• The Society of Motor Auctions has declined "with great reluctance" an offer of federation from the Motor Agents Association.
"We have a unique status which we are anxious to preserve," says SMA chairman Paul Manton, "having regard to the close relationship we now enjoy with government departments and other official bodies, including the Office of Fair Trading."
The SMA, however, hopes to maintain a close relationship with the MAA on the prevention of "clocking" and the problem of total loss write-offs.
