IRELAND'S ONLY truck park has been opened by the international freight forwarding company Walsh Western in Dublin's dockland, just four minutes' drive from the city centre.
It can accommodate up to 60 trucks or trailers and is open seven days a week for 24 hours a day. Speaking at the opening, John McDunphy, manager of the park, said that damage caused to unattended trucks and containers by vandals had increased dramatically in Dublin over the past year.
"The problem is so bad that some drivers are even sleeping in their trucks overnight rather than risk leaving them unattended," said Mr McDunphy. "In one incident last month vandals set fire to three containers causing almost £100,000 worth of damage." Prices for parking a unit in the park start at 1R£10 per 24 hour stay.
There have been two truck parks opened in Ireland in the past two years, but both had closed due to lack of custom.
