THE CHANCES of the National Freight Consortium becoming a ferry operator have been increased by a Government move to rule out bids for Sealink UK from European Ferries and P and 0.
NFC is a partner in a management/finance consortium which has bid to take over Sealink when it is sold by British Rail. Other bidders are Sea Containers, Ellerman Lines, and Trafalgar House.
As established cross-Channel operators, P and 0 and European Ferries have been ruled out of the bidding without reference to the Monopolies and Mergers Commission.
