Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A NEW £15 million freight complex is being designed to take freight off the roads and put it on railways said a BR spokesman announcing details of the complex to be built at Neasden.

It is the culmination of ideas put forward by the Greater London Council's former transport committee two years ago, and it is to be built on a triangle of former railway land bordered by two railways and the North Circular road.

The complex will have facilities for break-bulk and was originally one of a series proposed by the GLC as one way of enforcing a ban on heavy vehicles in London. But the Neasden plan is the sole survivor of the original scheme and has managed to stay alive, even though the ban plan is long dead.

Plans for the complex include 412,125sqft of warehousing and future ancilliary offices, plus a 4,125sqft light industrial or workshop site. A hostel for drivers with a shop, banking, eating and anciliary accommodation facilities is also proposed on a 21,000sqft area.

But the major part of thE acre site will be taken up IA parking for 100 lorries k secure parking for 40 to vehicles, plus garage and fi ling facilities.

It is also possible that a f lift truck store and rep facility will be provided toe Among other possible fut plans are an Inland Cleara Depot with a rail link to ii grate the site into a propo BR freight development — it is this that BR hopes take freight off the roads onto the railways.

The BR site is thought li1( to be a Freightliner termi which would then service E new acquisition and pros an instant link with the ro for local distribution.

The development of thE acre site is being handled t consortium, as envisaged the original GLC proposal. • group includes Kyle Stew Legal and General Assura (Pensions Management) I the English Property Corp( tion and Tesco.
