if a trial experiment with artic buses is agreed in South Yorkshire, all South Yorkshire bus drivers would be allowed to drive them on their existing psv licences.
Until now the DTp has insisted that artic bus drivers hold a class 1 hgv licence but as the trailer on the artic bus is steered automatically and follows the exact path of the "tractive unit," is no more difficult to drive than a conventional single deck bus. A 'model agreement" for pooled international coach services has been finalised and adopted by Section 1 — Professional passenger transport — of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) in Geneva.
