A PRISON sentence broke a scrap dealer's hold on his four lorries, and caused his Operat Licence to be curtailed. The Transport Tribunal heard earlier this week that Withing (Hereford) dealer Reginald Smith had held an 0 licence for eight years and, despite his b( virtually illeterate, had an almost unblemished maintenance record.

Last year, however, he was jailed for six months for a VAT offence and, in his absence, one vehicle was found to have tyre and exhaust problems, another was served with a de fect notice for a tyre offe: and a third was served wi. GV9 for a tyre offence.

The West Midland Licen. Authority ordered that th licence be curtailed by removal of the two nev vehicles, judged to be in r ginally worse condition t the other pair, for two mon and for the licence to be minated prematurely on cember 31 this year.
