Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The Medway Ports Authority opened its new roll-on-off ferry terminal at Sheerness Docks with the arrival on May 17 of the m.v. Channel Bridge II from Ostend.

Using a steel link span bridge and a reinforced concrete pontoon, freight vehicles of up to 80 tons gross weight with loads up to 18ft in width can be loaded or unloaded into either bow or stern loading vessels. Fifteen acres of vehicle parks together with transit shed and customs accommodation is available immediately adjacent to the terminal.

The first user of the terminal is Ostend-Sheerness Freight Ferries Ltd, running a daily service to and from Ostend.

Tanker rates up

• Members of the bulk liquids group of the RHA are advising their customers of a rates increase of 7per cent for both contract work and spot hire to take effect immediately.
